Themes
The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Hebrew Bible (the Tanakh) and the Christian Old Testament. The word derives from the Greek word for "origin," in reference to the first Hebrew verse, "In the Beginning..."
John Dee takes this passage as a reference to Christ descending from Heaven, and incorporates the quote into the title page and colophon to the Monas Hieroglyphica.
