The Book of Isaiah is the first of the Latter Prophets in the Hebrew Bible and the first of the Major Prophets in English bibles. The oldest surviving manuscripts of Isaiah are two scrolls found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, dating from about a century before the time of Jesus. Isaiah identifies itself as the words of the 8th century prophet Isaiah ben Amoz, but there is ample evidence that much of it was composed during the Babylonian exile and later.
Similar formulations are found in the Upanishads and in Psalm 139.
